If you know my husband, you know that he is quite the handyman. He is always doing odd jobs to improve our house: from simple things like changing out brass faucets, doorknobs and hinges, to more difficult tasks like adding air conditioning vents, electrical outlets and even installing a whole house humidifier. We also enjoy tackling household projects together (i.e. kitchen tile backsplash, installing hardwoods and tile floors at the old house) because it challenges us and we like to see how much money we can save!
His latest project was a sofa table for our living room. Last year, we purchased a sectional. This meant the corner end table had to go. You never realize how convenient they are until they are gone. So now, instead of lazily reaching next to you to get your drink, you had to actually use your core muscles to bend forward, and stretch to reach your drink on the coffee table. We also lost a surface in which to place a lamp. But not anymore!
We now have the world's longest sofa table measuring 80". That's the main reason David made us one, because who sells an 80" long table? And if they did, how much would that sucker cost? I found some spindles at a local junk store for inspiration and David took care of the rest. He cut the square part off the bottom of the spindles, assembled them to a frame, routed and attached the table top, sanded the whole thing, painted it, distressed it to look like an antique and then sealed it with a coat of wax. I think it turned out beautifully. What do you think?
